Markings:

The canvas is lined, the paint surface is dirty and the varnish is discoloured and uneven. A vertical stretcher mark running through the centre of the composition is visible. The original canvas has started to come away from the lining in the lower right corner, and there is a small loss in the raised arm of the dancing maenad, approx. 1 x 0.5 cm., as well as a few additional pinprick, scattered losses, notably upper right. There is a network of repaired tears in the still life of flowers, centre right, with associated discoloured retouching; these tears are actually more apparent in the lining on the reverse, than when looking at the painting. Some of the darker pigments, notably the browns in the right half of the composition, appear slightly worn and possibly retouched. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals various retouchings beneath the uneven and opaque varnish, which makes discernment difficult: throughout the sky, and notably to a concentrated area in the upper left corner; scattered throughout the aforementioned dark pigments in the right half of the composition; and some additional, small and scattered cosmetic retouchings in the rest of the canvas, notably a diagonal band above the still life, lower left, approx. 2 cm. The painting is in overall fairly good condition.
